Dialup Connection Setup - Windows 2000

To connect to the Internet using a dialup connection, you will need to set up a Connection in 'Network and Dial-up Connections'. The basic information that you will require to do this is as follows :-

If you are using Windows 2000, you may find the following step by step instructions of use.

1. Click the Start button
2. Click 'Settings'
3. Click 'Network and Dial-up Connections'
4. Double Click 'Make New Connection'
5. Click 'Next'
6. Select 'Dial-up to the Internet', and then click 'Next'
7. Select 'I want to set up my Internet connection manually', and then click 'Next'
8. Select 'I connect through a phone line and a modem', and then click 'Next' (assuming that this is your connection method - if you connect through your LAN, you probably won't be reading these instructions)
9. Choose your modem from the selection box, and then click 'Next'
10. Tick the 'Use area code and dialing rules' box (should be ticked by default). The dialup number is 0845 123 1657, so enter '0845' in the 'Area code' box, and the remainder of the number in the 'Telephone number' box (no apostrophes), and then click 'Next'
11. Enter your name in the 'User name' box, and your desired password in the 'Password' box, and click 'Next'
12. Enter 'inco-internet' (our name - 'inco' for 'Influential Computers') in the 'Connection name' box, and then click 'Next'
13. Select 'No', and then click 'Next'
14. Uncheck the 'To connect to the Internet immediately, ......' checkbox, and then click 'Finish'
15. Close the 'Network and Dial-up Connections' window

You now need to setup your system to use the new dial-up connection :-

1. Click the Start button
2. Click 'Settings'
3. Click 'Control Panel'
4. Double Click 'Internet Options'
5. Select the 'Connections' tab
6. Select 'InCo-Internet.....' from the 'Dial-up settings' list
7. Select 'Always dial my default connection'
8. Click the 'Set Default' button
9. Click 'OK'
10. Close the 'Control Panel' window
